A new public space and night club has been introduced beneath the Vltavská underpass, revitalizing an area that had lost its transit function between Hlávkův Bridge. Previously avoided by Prague’s citizens when passing through the Vltavská transport intersection, the underpass has been transformed into a vibrant urban space through a two-stage redevelopment process. The newly designed space offers a variety of freestyle activities, replacing vacancy and darkness with an active and engaging environment. The daily offerings include a streetball area, a dance floor with mirrors, pole dancing facilities, obstacles for freestyle sports, a workout zone, a bouldering wall, and a public art gallery. The design particularly caters to skateboarders, BMX riders, and freestyle scooter users, providing them with a covered area illuminated by artificial lighting. A key design element is the integration of a linear water stream from the Vltava River, reinforcing the connection to its natural surroundings. Additionally, a night spa is incorporated, independent of season, weather, or time of day. The underpass has been designed as a safe and shared space for pedestrians and cyclists alike.
The entire underground space has undergone deep cleaning and surface improvements. Durable and low-maintenance materials, primarily steel and concrete, have been used throughout. The perception of safety is further enhanced by the installation of new linear lighting across the entire area. For those in need of a break, the club features a chill-out zone with a scenic view of the city. The entrance area, located near the public transport hub, has been designated for a pop-up bar and bistro.
A unique aspect of the space is its permanent resident, Ollie the pig. Ollie features a QR code that allows visitors to support underprivileged individuals who have lost their homes and seek shelter in the area, through a transparent account managed by Prague 7. Emphasizing the sense of community, the space fosters inclusivity and interaction among all visitors.
