Sensations: 100% Wood Housing Project

In the heart of Strasbourg, these affordable housing units reach heights of collective ambition. The most important 100% wood housing project in Europe and the tallest in France, the îlot Biosourcé hosts 146 apartments across its 11 stories.

Ranked among the 11 tallest wooden buildings in the world by the CTBUH, its highly qualitative habitats are surrounded by open-air gardens. The construction is light, ecological and fast, and was awarded the Prix de la Construction Bois in 2020.

A concrete basement supports the CLT floors, in which partitions, elevator shaft and stairs are all made of CLT while offering spacious housing and letting in lots of natural light.

The technical performance provides optimal living quality. ‘’Sensations’’ demonstrates the vast possibilities offered by timber knowledge. The quality of bio-sourced materials and their minimal carbon footprint, proportionally lower as the wood ratio grows, are just the beginning of what sustainable architecture can bring to cities.
