In this conversation, the Bangalore-based architecture studio ShoulderTap reflects on the domestic project as a small but consequential part of the city’s larger transformation. As Bangalore densifies under development pressure, with land values rising faster than building costs, the logic of the house has shifted: plots are expected to be used to their maximum, and open, breathable space is increasingly rare. Against this backdrop, ShoulderTap describes a practice that deliberately looks inward, while still asking how domestic architecture might remain generous to the city around it.
