The construction of a new river crossing over the Llobregat River is part of the global strategy for environmental recovery and promotion of the social use of the river. In this particular case, the ford is located in a stretch of river that guarantees connectivity between Molins de Rei and Sant Feliu de Llobregat (on the left bank) and Sant Vicenç dels Horts (on the right bank).
The floodable structure crosses the river at a point where the riverbed is relatively narrow, upstream of where it meets the Torrelles Stream; it provides a crossing for foot and bicycle traffic, as well as for service vehicles, as long as the rising waters don’t make it impassable. From the two gravel paths on the banks, the difference in height, of five or six metres, is resolved with concrete ramps that run down into the riverbed.
In the entire area of the intervention, both on the newly created slopes and along the gravel paths, the aim is to plant species of trees and shrubs that can grow without needing to be watered. The intervention strengthens the metropolitan green infrastructure and joins the existing network of river paths.
