The Unió de Cooperadors in Gavà [Cooperator’s Union] is a representative building resulting from the initiative of a group of workers who joined the cooperative movement and asked the architects Sert and Torres Clavé, members of the GATCPAC and representatives of rationalist architecture, for a design of their headquarters.
The aim of the refurbishing is to recover the original function of the building, adapting it to the current needs and context, and reviving the architectural principles that inspired it: structure of pillars, open plan, façade with large windows, circular staircase and bright colours.
The multiple transformations undergone over the years have provided the building with greater spatial quality and natural light and have adapted it to current regulations for public uses.
The building is designated for multiple uses linked to the city’s young entrepreneurs, in connection with its origins as a cooperative and as a legacy of an architectural style that has changed the way we understand buildings, with its political, economic and social dimension.
