Solving the basic equation of materializing our dreams despite a limited budget, we began construction on our architectural office. The exercise began with the experimental transformation of materials, such as earth, wood and glass, arranging them between two existing trees: a flame tree, that sits outside but is framed by the building, and a guavirá tree, that stands in the middle of the space and keeps us company.
The 30-cm rammed earth walls hold the weight of the roof, resting on only 20 cm of its width, exploiting the structural qualities of the material. All of the furniture and doors are made from recycled wooden formwork used for the concrete slab that serves as the office roof.
The bookshelves are detached from the walls to let the light to continue its path, and the books and paintings, the studio’s most precious treasures, are suspended from ceiling.
If light builds time, and gravity builds space, the atmosphere at Earthbox is built from the sound of jazz, the smell of incense and the flavor of fresh coffee.
