Hildigunnur Sverrisdóttir is an Ad joint Lecturer and Program Director of Architecture at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. During the past decade, she has taught in various academic settings, mainly within architecture and design, but also in dramaturgy and various trans disciplinary programs. Her work and teaching focuses primarily on the social, political and ontological relevance of architecture. She studied architecture in Paris and Copenhagen, graduating from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2004.
Alongside her academic career, she has pursued traditional architectural practice, participated in competition teams with agencies in Iceland and abroad, and worked as a consultant to the Reykjavik building and planning authorities. Sverrisdóttir has initiated social, theoretical and critical activities within the local design field, earning her a nomination to an annual architectural prize, as well as a government artist’s salary. She regularly appears as a cultural commentator on Radio 1.
