Dr. ir. Gerhard Bruyns is an Assistant Professor for the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, where he is the deputy discipline leader of the Environmental and Interior Unit. Although trained as an architect [B-Arch], he holds both a Master of Science and a PhD in Urbanism from the Delft University of Technology. Dr. Bruyns has focused on publishing and editing books on urbanisation processes and urban development. Until 2013 Dr. Bruyns was an Assistant Professor of Architecture at TU Delft, as well as a guest lecturer at DIA, Anhalt, in Dessau, Germany [2010- 2012], and a Distinguished Scholar at the University of Pretoria, South Africa [since 2016]. His interests and research are mostly related to urban issues, and his current research focuses on questions of territoriality and occupation within the geopolitical and spatial frameworks of Asia and the inherent forms of dwelling. He lives in Hong Kong.
