Alexander Eisenschmidt | Visionary Cities Project

AAlexander Eisenschmidt (dipl.Arch., Ph.D.) is an architect, urbanist, writer, and Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He directs the Visionary Cities Project, a research-based platform devoted to the study of the contemporary city and to speculations on new forms of architectural urbanism. Eisenschmidt is the author of The Good Metropolis (Birkhäuser, 2019), editor of City Catalyst (Architectural Design, 2012), co-editor of Chicagoisms (Scheidegger & Spiess / Park Books, 2013) and The Project(s) of Modern Architecture (Wiley, 2017), and from 2012 to 2013 was the reviews editor of the Journal of Architectural Education, where he restructured the section as a thematically curated arsenal of ideas. In addition, Eisenschmidt has curated and his work has been exhibited in venues such as the 13th International Architecture Biennale in Venice (2012), the Art Institute of Chicago Museum (2014), the Shenzhen Biennale on Urbanism (2015), and the Lisbon Triennale of Architecture (2016).
