African bead museum selected as sxsw eco place by design finalist
The MBAD African Bead Museum is a finalist for SXSW Eco’s Place by Designin the Revitalization category. MBAD founder Olayami Dabls and key supporters will present their vision for the project at this year’s conference in Austin. The 2016 winners will be announced at the SXSW Eco Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, October 12.
LOHA is currently collaborating with Dabls on renovating and creating a strategic plan for the Museum, consisting of Dabls’ extensive outdoor public art installations, the African Bead Gallery, and a significant collection of African art and historic artifacts. Connecting the resilience found in Africa with that of Detroit, the Museum weaves together the immense power of African heritage into a vital contemporary context that has engaged and attracted local and global audiences.
