This document, presented at the 5th Building Digital Twin International Congress, explores the role of interoperability across operations and supply chains as a pathway to advancing the energy domain. It outlines the challenges of integrating diverse data systems and emphasizes the shift from costly, customized integrations to standardized interoperability solutions. Through diagrams, frameworks, and case studies—including subsea interconnection and OpenBIM deployment—the work demonstrates how semantic and syntactic interoperability, ontologies, and standardized gateways can enhance efficiency and collaboration. It also introduces the roadmap for the New Energy Domain, detailing governance structures, stakeholder engagement, and circular economy approaches to ensure sustainable transformation of upstream, downstream, and renewable energy sectors.
