Haussmann Stories

At 85 rue Championnet there was an empty plot of land, with a layout in plan that made it too convoluted to be constructed in a classic way, like the rest of the street, built in the Haussmann era. The rue Championnet is, in fact,  occupied by a long ribbon of Haussmannian façades that are all more or less identical.

The building is laid out on the site leaving empty spaces that create views, in response to the adjoining courtyards.

The vertical flows are concentrated in a minimum space, and they are glazed to provide light to the landings. The floor plans are optimized to minimize traffic and provide dual-aspect spacious living rooms.

Along the façade the building deforms and swells as if to occupy the site to the maximum, to make the make the most of the space and offer the largest possible dwellings. The material of the façade is similar to that of the street. The idea is to continue the line of Haussmannian façades along the rue Championnet as far as the eye can see: to this end, a Haussmannian facade is photographed and reproduced on the stone-colored panels that cover the façade, in Trespa.
