Civic Data Design Lab

The Civic Data Design Lab works with data, maps, and mobile technologies to develop interactive design and communication strategies that bring urban policy issues to broader audiences. The lab experiments with data visualization and data collection tools to make the work with data and images richer, smarter, more relevant, and more responsive to the needs and interests of citizens who are traditionally on the margins of policy development. Sarah Williams, current director of the lab, is an Associate Professor of Technology and Urban Planning at MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning. The research which made this exhibition possible was co-developed by Williams and Wenfei Xu, the senior project manager of the Ghost Cities research at the Civic Data Design Lab.
