The Norwegian/Icelandic architects duo Kjersti Hembre and Arna Mathiesen founded APRIL architects around the time they designed HOTHOUSE, a winning entry in Europan7 in 2003. APRIL is a platform of architects that have realized works on all scales, from furniture, installations and buildings to urban plans. Among their several projects dealing with urban condition on the northern fringes of Europe is a book they initiated and edited: ‘Scarcity in Excess – the Built Environment and the Economic Crisis in Iceland’, published by Actar in 2014. The architectural work of APRIL has been published internationally, and their housing projects are presented in public office’s supervisory brochures displaying exemplary practice in Norway.
